📌 Course Contents The course content is interesting, but could be a little more critical. I personally which there would not have been such a focus on the abrahamic religions. I felt like a lot on the content and examples were focused on christianity.
📌 Teaching Method Nice and relaxed. He also seems very passionate. However, I don't think it is necessary to repeat everything in chinese, since all students willingly signed up for an english taught course.
📌 Course Materials The book we used is interesting and engaging. It is nice to only use one source over the semester instead of many loose chapters like in some other courses.
📌 Assignments and Exams The assignments make sense for the course, very good.
📌 Grading Grading is good
📌 Reviews & Feedback I would recommend this course. The mood in the classroom is pleasant both on days where we watch movies and those where we got a lecture. I learned a lot about religion in a low pressure manner.
📌 Course Contents In this course you learn about religions and their historical background, offering somewhat of a timeline of historic events and eras. In general you gain a really nice overview of the larger world religions. Movies are used to illustrate the religions, but religion is more the focus than film.
📌 Teaching Method Lecture-style frontal teaching methods for the first 2/3 of class, with the last hour being a group-discussion lead by TAs.
📌 Course Materials book „A little history of religion“; several movies throughout the semester mostly watched during class.
📌 Assignments and Exams weekly assignments around 300 words (reading reports). Midterm and Final exam are offered on NTU cool and taken in the class room: multiple-choice tests with around 30 questions i think.
📌 Grading weekly assignments are graded by TA, same for group discussion participation. Exams graded by professor.
📌 Reviews & Feedback i personally really enjoyed this class as i had limited background knowledge on the presented religions. I also really enjoyed the movies that were played during this semester (e.g. Shawshank redemption or The Devils Advocate). I wish there was less ChatGPT involved, many of the lectures clearly were AI-generated texts. Professor Paulus is very knowledgable and has really good English, I believe he can be more confident in his own phrasing and contents!
📌 Reviews & Feedback It's an interesting course, we watched many movies and analyze/discuss it in the perspective of religious lens. Through this course, I also learned different types of religions, faith, and the society that builds it. The discussions with the TAs are also fun, we were given a place where we can speak our opinions and questions regarding the movie or our weekly readings.
